IgE–mediated inflammatory response
1.
Cause
(1) Seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever) airborne allergens such as pollen
(2) Perennial allergic rhinitis : dust mites, animal dander, mold

Symptoms
(1) Clear rhinorrhea (2) Nasal pruritus (3) Sneezing
(4) Ocular symptoms (conjunctival hyperemia and pruritus)

Physical exam
(1) Hypertrophy of the nasal turbinates
(2) Clear secretion from the nares
4.
Treatments
(1) Environmental controls (2) Nasal saline irrigation (3) Intranasal steroids
(4) Oral antihistamines (5) Montelukast (leukotriene receptor antagonist)
(6) Disodium cromoglycate (mast cell stabilizer)
